Mobility & Logistics Systems in the Circular Economy

Mobility is a basic prerequisite for social interactions and economic activities. To avoid transport-induced negative effects, it is essential to use synergies of different transport modes and forms of mobility.

Research Focus

In the field of action Mobility & Logistics Systems in the Circular Economy, we deal, among other things, with raising awareness in order to achieve behavioural changes towards ecologically, socially and economically sustainable mobility. The focus here is on the reduction of traffic through efficient planning, on multimodal route chains through demand-oriented offers, on user-centred solutions through innovative mobility services, as well as on the shift of traffic towards alternative and sustainable means of transport.

Furthermore, we deal with questions from the field of reverse logistics, i.e. the integration of return transports of end-of-life products or reusable products into supply chains. We develop mathematical models and methods as decision support for innovative and targeted measures for the benefit of society and the environment.

Current research topics include

  • the added value of active mobility
  • multi-level distribution systems,
  • the consumer perspective of the circular economy, as well as the
  • Interactions of regional planning and logistics
